Hi, I'm Vanessa and I'm so glad you're here!
Let me tell you a bit more about myself.
I was born and raised in Germany, where I have lived most of my life. As a child, I hated the idea of being away from home for just a single night. But going on holidays with my family around Europe really made me excited about the world out there. 20 years later, I love to travel and to explore the world off the beaten paths to learn about different cultures and to meet amazing people. As of today, I have already lived in 5 countries on 4 continents: Germany, UK, Canada, Namibia and Cambodia.
During my time working as an intern in a food and nutrition security project in Cambodia, I have met my now husband Peter from England. We have lived in a long-distance relationship for 2 years, before we tied the knot in Denmark and I quit my job and moved to the UK in summer 2023.
Peter and I became parents in autumn 2024. Our son arrived a shocking 3 months early and we spent a long 4.5 months in hospital. He's our superstar and discovering the world with him and seeing him learning something new fills my heart with joy every day.
Apart from early childhood, I have always been a night owl. Unsurprisingly, I love to have long weekend lie-ins - and luckily, so does my husband but not so much my son. I'm really slow in the morning and not very productive before 9 o'clock.
My day only really starts after I had my first cup of coffee. I'm a fan of fish & chips, pasties and scones, but really can't stand marmite. Indian and Thai food are my favourites, but I never say no to pizza and pasta.
Time in nature is always a treat for my soul. I enjoy escaping the hustle of everyday live - camping, hiking and stand-up paddling are my favourite outdoor activities. Whenever I have some spare time - mainly while cleaning the house or ironing clothes - I listen to podcasts. My favourite ones are all about photography (surprise!), true crime and aviation (mainly plane incident investigations). I can tell you all the nitty-gritty details if you're interested - but no worries, I respect this is not for everyone!
I'm also a die-hard ice hockey fan - I have been supporting my hometown team since 2006 - and now also support the local team Oxford City Stars. As much as I love watching ice hockey, I'm a pretty bad skater myself - so I decided it would be safer for me to play field hockey instead.
It was nice to meet you - I can't wait to connect in real life.
